About Us

Straight answers about your land's grid potential.

SolarGridCheck is a free, independent tool that helps UK landowners find out — in about 30 seconds — whether their land could host a solar farm or battery storage project, using the same grid and planning data the industry relies on. If it looks viable and you want to take it further, we introduce you to vetted developers. No cost, no obligation.

Why we built it

For most landowners the first question — “is there even grid capacity near me?” — is the hardest to answer. The data exists, but it's scattered across DNO network maps, the Government's planning database and National Grid records, none of it written for landowners. We pulled it together so you can get a realistic read before you spend months chasing developers for one.

Who's behind it

Taro Schenker

Founder & Developer

I'm Taro — a web developer, and the person who built SolarGridCheck. I'm not a solar developer, and I'm not trying to buy your land.

I built this because the information landowners need was locked away in spreadsheets and planning databases that almost no one outside the industry can navigate. The tool turns that public data into a straight answer. If your site looks promising, I'll introduce you to developers who've been vetted — but the decision, and the timing, stay yours.

Where our data comes from

We don't guess. Every assessment is built on public, industry-standard sources:

DNO network capacity

Published connection and headroom data from the regional Distribution Network Operators — the figures developers use to judge a site.

Renewable Energy Planning Database

The UK Government's REPD — a record of renewable projects across the country, so we can see what's already been built or queued near you.

National Grid ESO

Transmission-level capacity and constraint information for a realistic read on the bigger connection points.

What “independent” means here

SolarGridCheck is free for landowners, and we're not tied to any single developer. When we introduce you to a developer and a project goes ahead, the developer pays us — never you. That's the only way we make money, and it means we have no reason to push you toward anyone but the right fit. You're always free to walk away.

The company
